Call AE 70 days before you want to dine. Explain carefully the days they need to make the call (Sep 4th on July 4th at 10am PST, etc, fight through busy signals). Have them try for every day you'll be there. And tell them to get anything they can get ... dinner first, then lunch.

This generally makes them unhappy since they have set aside a 4-top for your party. They have threatened to charge for the extra person. If you call them up a few weeks beforehand and let them know your numbers have changed, they will probably be able to accommodate.

1) To transfer an OpenTable reservation to a different party, you can either a) cancel the reservation online and be ready to grab it from another account, or b) call the restaurant and ask them to put it in someone else's name. I've done both before, though with a) you risk someone snapping it up (though I've done it a bunch and never had a problem). 2) To transfer a phone reservation, just

Call today and tomorrow, starting at 10AM PST, and keep checking opentable.com while you are calling.

Since you'll be there for quite a few days, I'd say your best bet is hoping for a cancellation. Call them every day around 4 (especially weekdays) and check for same-day cancellations.

The frenchlaundry.com site _used_ to say that they didn't accept walk-up reservations. Now it says that "unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate walk-in guests" which is vague as to whether they mean no walk-in reservation requests, or walk-in dining attempts. So, to answer your question, it *might* be true -- hard to say!

At this point you should definitely call and be added to the waiting list. Checking opentable every day can't hurt either. Unfortunately chances of getting in are not good, but sometimes cancellations do happen! If you still don't have a reservation, call the restaurant around 4pm each day to see if there are any last-minute cancellations. Good luck! Aren

Nope, the time window for getting reservations is very small. You can call and ask to be placed on the waiting list, though.

Those tables will become available tomorrow at 10am Pacific Time. Recruit your friends and start calling right at 10! And check OpenTable starting at 10am too.

There is an inherent mismatch between OpenTable's calendar (limits you to 61 days out) and French Laundry's calendar (tables are available 2 months out to the day). It's made worse by the month of February with only 28 days which means OpenTable shows the message "Your requested date exceeds the maximum advance reservation limit for The French Laundry" 4 days past what French Laundry i

It's not 60 days, it 2 months out. So reservations for March 5th are taken on January 5th. Last I checked the tables were opened manually between 10am and 11am (it used to be right at midnight). I haven't heard how it's working lately.

Your understanding is correct, as far as I know. And the day they return from break is the easiest day to make a reservation -- assuming you get through!

You are in luck! Parties of 8 or more are exempt from the reservation madness. Per this page (http://www.opentable.com/rest_profile.aspx?rid=1180): Private Party Facilities: The French Laundry Restaurant can accommodate private parties of 8-10 guests or a facility rental for up to 62 guests. Private parties can be reserved up to one year in advance. Private Party Contact: Jennifer Fuku

Not likely to happen -- reservations for 10/29 were all made on 8/29. Odd improve slightly because it's a lunch. Check OpenTable every so often in case someone cancels. Then call the day before in the afternoon and ask if there are any cancellations. Possibly check again in the morning around 10 or 11, but getting through the busy signals at that time will be very tough. And have a table

Jamie -- that's a Saturday night on a holiday weekend. I'm sorry to say there's almost no chance of getting a reservation inside of the 2-month reservation window. If you're staying in the area talk to your concierge in the off chance that there's a last minute cancellation.

Have you talked with the hotel's concierge? They might be able to help you get a last-minute slot, especially for dinner on the 16th or 17th.

Getting off of the waitlist on a Tuesday night isn't unheard of. If he has a hotel reservation already, check with his concierge -- the ones in the better Napa/Yountville hotels stand a good chance of making it happen.

Best tip: --- Use your credit card's concierge service. Especially if you (or someone you know) has an American Express Black or Platinum card. They seem to have uncanny luck (or just reserved tables). Make sure you give them at least 70 days notice and explain the reservation is made exactly 2 months out. Second best tip: --- Book a nice Napa- or Yountville-area hotel at least 3 months
